"Slab or..."
"The other one.
"...speed climbing."
Can I change my answer please.

being short is a mechanical advantage so long as you are tall enough to reach the next hold. Being tall opens up more options, but mechanically the movements are harder.

Love that magnus says short is better, because I climb with my brother who's like half a foot taller than me, and all of the holds I struggle with due to needing technique, he can just reach with no issues.

Like no hate he's a great climber, better than me for sure, but in 2 or 3 sessions I've lost count of how many things I've failed that he succeeded because he had a bit more reach.

Gives me hope that if I just improve my technique and train better, I can overcome the "short"comings lmao

People in my gym recently got jokingly annoyed with me because I sent a route by skipping 2-3 holds, because I'm tall enough/have long enough arms to just barely reach up and grab the last hold, skipping the last move.

I agree saying tall is better, but having less weight and a lower center of mass would definitely be nice on some climbs.

I’m a slab enjoyer. I’m also 92kg so my shins don’t enjoy them. Also today I managed to rip a hold off the wall with a large dyno onto a chip and it snapped. Very sorry to the peeps trying that now impossible c7

Its awesome to see that Alex Megos tries climbing to relax from his exhausting comedy acts! He couldnt choose better. But I am also very excited for his next show!

Short vs tall…

Imagine you could scale-up the size of all holds on the expense of also scaling up their distance to each other. Would you go for that deal?
I personally would 98/100 times do that without a question. Even that „expense“ sometimes is an additional advantage.

Being shorter basically does that trade, and on top you have better mass to strengthen ratio due to how scaling works. E.g, ants would not be able to walk or even get crushed by their own weight if they were human size.

"Height doesn't matter". I watched Ai Mori struggle with two of the boulders because she was simply too short and relatively easily get the other two in this years Olympics.

So nice to see this format where they don't talk for 20 minutes in between every question

Short means you can do more and easily and tall you get more options, short you are forced to use what you can tall you can choose usually

Very heartening to hear pro's say "height doesn't matter". I'm 6' and my gf is like 5'2" and it's difficult to convince her most boulders can be done regardless of height. It even discourages me (a beginner) when my 6'5" roommate crushes problems solely by reaching.
