Breastfeeding in Public - Akron Children's Hospital video

Breastfeeding is a natural, healthy way to ensure infants have the nutrition they need to begin a lifetime of growth and development. In this Children's Channel video, Liz Maseth, RN, IBCLC, RLC, a lactation consultant at Akron Children's Hospital, is joined by several moms as they discuss the appropriateness and importance of breastfeeding outside the home.

The problem is, is that breast have been sexualised so much that woman get criticism for using them for there right purpose

I've just remembered something that happened to me in 1982 when I was a mere 16 year old and I wanted to tell someone about it, so looked up a public breastfeeding video as the best place to tell it. Be patient, you'll like this one.

I was sitting also in the Teenage Library (A small room to the side of the main library) reading a book. A lady came in with a young child and started feeding her. Being a sixteen year old, I took the odd fascinated glace in her direction. The lady catches me at it. Without missing a beat, she smiles and says 'Come over here and watch if you want to'.

So I did. She had no embarrassment, and in doing so, saved me from the same. She answered my questions without hesitation and without judgement. Then she finished, tucked herself away and left.

I do not know who she was and I never will, but I think of her occasionally (I now have six children of my own), and that simple action changed me. I learned.

In case it's not obvious, I am male, I'm somewhat conservative and maybe even old-fashioned in my attitude, but women have the right to feed their babies wherever and whenever they wish, and any man who disagrees needs to do what I did when I was 16. They need to grow up a bit.

My wife dose not give a darn she's always brest fed in public no one cared no one stared in shock or anger. It's a beautiful thing that people mabey not where I am but other city or states look down on.

This video is very misleading. Nobody on earth is against mothers, feeding the baby, but there are plenty of people including mothers, who don’t want their children seeing random boobs mothers not get about that just like the one example of the one mom whose mother-in-law asked her why she couldn’t do That before they left the house and the mom said well it’s not my schedule is the baby schedule, so why don’t you schedule your activities around the baby or or if you have to do in public use a light blanket how hard is that?

Many things are "natural" but are not appropriate in current culture society.

We don't have sex in public though that is "natural"

Nor do we defecate and urinate publicly.

There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding.
But it is inappropriate to do so in public.

What would be more reasonable is to provide specific places out in public areas for breastfeeding.

Just as accomodations are made for handicapped people, and just as public restrooms are made available,
Perhaps that is a more reasonable solution.

Win-win for everyone.

Logically speaking breast feeding shouldn't be allowed in public, people will argue that it is a natural act and the baby is hungry so it needs feeding, ...this is all good and true but if an adult or a non breast feeding older child is hungry they can wait to go somewhere to eat, the same can be said for a baby, it doesn't have to feed instantly, it can wait till the mum is somewhere more private the same as an adult is able to do when they are hungry, you don't have to eat instantly your body allows you time not to need to do that. You are born naked but you aren't allowed to walk around naked, sex and reproduction is a natural act but you can't do that, also going to the toilet out in the public exposing your bits isn't allowed and again that is a natural human act so on that basis breast feeding in public were you are able to see a woman's breast shouldn't be allowed. Personally it doesn't bother me and I'm not offended by it but the majority of people seem to be very sensitive over the tiniest thing, which seems to be the norm these days....even all the other acts thst I mentioned wouldn't bother me if I witnessed them as it is a natural human act, just as long as non of them are physically forced on you against your will
