DIY Sprint Race Timing System with Arduino

This project will connect two things that I like, making and running! I would like to see how fast I can run 100m and that's why I build this project, it's simple to build, you don't need any fancy tools and we will use popular components like Arduino, buzzer, buttons, and one that's not so popular: E-paper display.

Thank you for such a honest video. I build some projects with ultra sonic sensors. They tend to have ghost detections. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one struggle with this.

Another great project. Have fun running!
Hey, and a big shout out to your dad running behind you with the camera!

How would you add a release button timer to start the time when your finger leaves the button from the starting line?

Hi Nikodem, weather looks good to be out for s run, a sponsor is good, will help you build more great projects. Enclosure look nice, we were wishing it had a groove to slip into the other base part not for sealing it from the elements just as a practice to hone ones skills in alignment. Ok you are going to make a better enclosure later.

What about the the motion sensors . . . who/what are they?

Should include a wiring diagram and list of requirements.

Does the setup compensate for the speed of sound? At 100m the beep to have you start will be delayed about a 1/3 second.

Hi, I was wondering if you would able to explain do this project without the paper display and did you use the analog pins for the ultrasonic sensor? I would really appreciate the help.

Hi, I tested this kind of measurement but it's very difficult to get a clear result, the ultrasonic sensor doesn't catch everytime when I go ahead, is it the same for you ?
And sometime the sensor get a result event I don't have obstacle

Hi. Great video. I'm up to building this but do you have any schema for the wiring?

How’d you learn how to build something like this? I want to be able to do that. How would I learn?

Great content! I am trying to make a similar project but inside a medical physics lab. They have a nice hallway and i try to think of a smart idea to place either photocells or rfid or something to make a timing system for pacing/running. My only two problems are cost and wiring (i can't open holes in walls for the photocells or the wires etc). The hallway is like 30m long and the system should be keeping laps every 5m. Any ideas?

nice proof of concept, but you lose time when the buzzer goes off - its not much, but at 100 meters, there is already a noticable delay between the thing going off and you hearing it. you really should need two parts of the timing mechanism. but thats really hard and there might be a reason why true timing gear is that expensive. but just for the fun of it, its a cool thing.

Interesting application of technology. It will be interesting to see how well this works on a regular basis. I can think of some potential enhancements, but if this works well enough then that would be overkill. I wish you well on your sprints. I’ve been getting back into indoor rowing again. It is good to have a fitness goal. I like collecting performance data. I use an app to log my performance and heart rate. You might find it interesting to develop expanded data capture tools for your running. Very impressive image stability on the trailing running shot.

I sent you a PayPal payment last month. Just want to make sure it actually got to you. Let me know if you didn’t get it and I’ll investigate further.

Could you tell me, which camera do you use? ;)

you get upright too quickly for a sprint
