Entering the Purple Cave, Evia 2018 (Μωβ Σπήλαιο, Μεσοχώρια Ευβοίας)

My 1st time exploring the Purple Cave in Evoia, Mesochoria (2018)

While spending my summers there since 1998, it was not until August 2018 that I came across some online footage of SPELEO's 1st discovery of the cave (Athen's caving club). Thus, the following days I searched for the cave via Google Earth, planned the approach and gathered a small group of friends to explore it.

The approach to the cave includes a 30min drive via a rough dirt road, a 45min hike and a 5min (15m) non-technical climb to descend into the cave, which can be done either free or with a rope (there's a bolt on the rock at the entrance for fixing a rope at the top). Though I did not use a fixed rope for practical reasons, it is recommended for potential visitors with no climbing experience.
