Detained with 80, 000 cash upon entering Russia at the airport. In the US, any cop can stop you and take (in effect confiscate) all your money, even if it is a modest few hundred dollars in cash that you have in your pocket. It happens every day. Paul Whelan claims that he was in Russia (which he had entered multiple times before) to help at a friend's wedding. The day of the wedding, however, he did not attend the wedding after telling the attendees (he was suppose to be helping) that he was not coming to the wedding. Why bring $80, 000 in cash into another country, who provided that much cash and for what purpose? Even George Soros, Warren Buffet or their peers would not travel with that much cash on them. There is absolutely no need to carry that much cash if you are coming to Russia for a short visit. I can see bringing 5, 000 and say, your Amex card or your favorite CC. This guy has probably never done a single day of work in his life and he carries that much cash? He thinks that because he pulled a stint with the US Marines he is entitled to privileges. To begin with, in the Marine Corps he was court-martialed and dishonorably discharged for multiple cases of larceny. In other words for being a thief. And he carries three additional passports (nationalities) besides his US passport. My sleaze bell went off when I read details about this man's life and his arrest. The Russians can keep him.

The fact we could not get him in the swap for the Merchant of Death is insane. I’ll say that again because it’s almost incomprehensible. We swapped Brittney Griner, a good WNBA player, for the Merchant of Death and didn’t get him back in addition to it. Everyone is talking about britney grinder and the trade for her freedom over paul but Paul’s charges of espionage is more serious then drug possession charge in russia. It’s already bad enough that we’re enemies with russia but being accused of espionage as an American in an enemy state gives you serious time and if you think the trade will be that easy they’d want to trade someone who’s super powerful to russia for Paul’s freedom😭😭😭
