Eddie's framing of the picture is pure delight. I am shocked how young Douglas, Mitchum and Greer were at that time. Well, it was '47 after all, 9 years before I was born. Thank you!

Love the lake house in this movie and of course the film itself. This was the first noir I saw and I remember how unsettled I felt at the ending

The best American film noir, Out of the Past, was directed by a Frenchman. Arguably the best French film noir, Rififi, was directed by an American, Jules Dassin.

Who did the musical score for Out of the Past. ? A catchy and interesting romantic tune that seems to resonate well throughout this iconic film noir.

Well, Mitchum & Douglas together in a film is just too much masculine smarminess for me. The best things are the magnificent cinematography, score, supporting cast, & Miss Jane Greer. I admit that I had not seen her in a movie before this one ( that I know of) but she is a revelation. I'll look for more of her work now.

Wiki: JANE GREER (1924-2001) was an American film and television actress best known for her role as femme fatale Kathie Moffat in the 1947 film noir Out of the Past. In 2009,  The Guardian named her one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination. Once dubbed "The Woman with the Mona Lisa Smile" by her studio. Jane had a facial paralysis as a child, did face exercises to overcome it, and was left with a unique, still, watchful look.
