I think you’re 100% right about how this won’t sell well and that consequently, it will end up making SE think that “no one cares about Xenogears anymore” and will start scaling back merch. Sad!

I mean, this is the same company that partnered with Fender guitars to make an FF14 themed stratocaster (with a matching pick set). This is about as surprising as the sky being blue.

Like for many, Xenogears is my favorite game of all time, but I personally refuse to purchase any of the merch. I don't have a PS1 (though I still have my copy of the game), but the game is still available to me through unofficial means, and if Square Enix were to ever make it available through official means, I would gladly purchase the game again. The FOMO for merch, however, means absolutely nothing to me, and the outrageous prices for merch for a game that is receiving absolutely no attention for the game itself makes the prices even more infuriating. The only Xenogears merch that I've ever purchased (for ~$60) was the unofficial English version of Perfect Works, and I would have also gladly given Square Enix that $60 (not $600!) for an official English version of Perfect Works.

It really is such an SE moment when they see poor sales of anything they release, and then blame the product, instead of realizing it's their own fault.
I even did a bit of research on luxury watches and found you can buy actual luxury watches for the same price as the 2000 USD one. So out of touch and nonsensical.

They do this so often. FFXIV statues for Hydalen, Zodiark, and Shiva are some examples. Might be that NFT tax if those games are failing.

The bring arts figure many think are overpriced, for a weird xenogears and Front mission model kits seems pretty accesible (of course need a ton of paint).

Dude, the Form-Ism situation is far worse.
They’ve been doing jewelry and luxury watches for ages now.
But the pricing on the Form-Ism is absurd. A 20cm figure with some bits of diecast costing more than high quality 1/6 figures from the likes of Hot Toys or InArt?
THAT’s what can tank the merch for Xenogears….

Yeah. I have given up on the franchise and my hobbies overall. They were a drain on me as I chased after the nostalgia and I realized that the game Xenogears and even Saga are not that well written. They make amateur mistakes in writing that is something to expect from Tetsuya Takahashi taking a directorial debut. I have also long checked out of various spaces of the Fandom. I don't know what else to say but I am sorry for being a pain to you all.

I'm personally shocked at that new 20cm Weltall figure that sells for 36, 000 yen. With all of the QC issues that ALL Square products have--nevermind that a 20cm figure isn't even worth this price--who is going to preorder this blindly??? Square seems to be losing touch.

This is sad. I don't understand who's fault is that gaming turned into an overconsumption hobby. For people to just throw money at for almost everything. For stuff you mostly don't need just to satisfy a nostalgia for a lost era...
