Three-point lighting is a standard method used in visual media such as video, film, still photography and computer-generated imagery. By using three separate positions, the photographer can illuminate the shot's subject (such as a person) however desired, while also controlling (or eliminating entirely) the shading and shadows produced by direct lighting.

The goal of three point lighting is to create the illusion of a three-dimensional subject in a two-dimensional image. While you can create dimension a number of different ways, there's no doubt that using light and shadow is a powerful way to accomplish this, and three point lighting is the lighting technique most commonly used.

When you have a black background like this, even with good three point lighting, the background will sometimes have noise in it. Especially if your shooting with a smartphone (an iPhone 6+). Obviously by using a lower FPS setting (24 is good), you'll get more light. My question is, what ISO and shutter speed do you recommend for black backgrounds? And if you get hot spots on the face do you use less light, move the lights or change exposure, ISO and/or shutter speed settings? And how do you manage all of this if you're working alone as both the camera operator and the subject? Thanks for your time.

Can I achieve decent lighting for product photography using one Flora light head and maybe two of 4 light softboxes from Linco?
