The point of the cardboard is that it will rot eventually … after impeding weeds long enough to allow your chosen plants to become established. Landscape cloth is a horror to deal with after a few years as weed roots grow down through it after starting out in organic material deposited on top of it.

What did you use to hammer down the cardboard? I do not want rusty nails in my garden bed. Mulch should be enough to keep the cardboard from shifting until enough rain soaks it into place. Newspaper is an alternative to cardboard if you have large quantities. Landscape fabric is my second choice in a bed where I might want to continue moving plants around. I will never again use a rock mulch (too hard to weed)

Consider polymer sand instead of glue in the gaps between pavers. Wet the sand after install and it solidifies.

In Georgia, adding the cardboard boxes just encourages weeds. That stuff will breakdown quickly and be worse than before.

What is the point of putting cardboard under mulch can someone please explain? If you are creating a flower bed wouldn't the plants be better off with their roots having access to the soil?
