One of the most important sketches in comedy history.

Marty Feldman and John Junkin laughed so much while filming this sketch, they had to keep re-shooting it. Each time, Feldman increasingly exaggerated the gnome character - much to the irritation of the writers, Michael Palin and Terry Jones. They said the more that Feldman "gnomed" it up, the weaker the punchline would be.

The head writer and then-advisor to the BBC comedy department, Barry Took, was so impressed by Palin and Jones that he teamed them up with two of the show's other writers, Graham Chapman and John Cleese. The rest is history...

Superb comedian... He once said "I won't eat anything that has intelligence, but I'll gladly eat a network executive or a politician." :-) I see his point. "Medical science is only in its infancy, yet it has shown that our natural food is that which grows out of the ground." ~ Abdul-Baha, Baha'i Faith
