Top 10 Worst College Football Teams 2021 Season

A Top 10 List counting down worst FBS College Football teams of the 2021 season. I used multiple factors to evaluate these teams such as record, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. However, this was ultimately based off my opinion as I didn't have a specific ranking metric. The game shown for each team was not shown for any specific reason, I just picked one of that team's worst losses of the season. Feel free to debate in the comments if you disagree with my list! Let me know what you guys think! I know some will ask so I will explain it here: I went with Temple (3-9) over USF and Tulane because Temple had a significantly weaker schedule and USF beat them head to head 34-14. Also, two of Temple’s wins were against Akron and Wagner, and their closest loss was by 20 points. USF and Tulane were competitive throughout the season even though they finished with worse records. Just wanted to explain this because I spent a lot of time thinking about this before finalizing the list.

The fact that UMass lost to not one but 2 FCS football teams is quite tragic

Arizona may have been one of the 10 worst teams this year, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them go bowling next season or win the Pac South in a couple years.

New Mexico is such a frustrating team because their tough 3-3-5 defense suffocated offenses to an extent but their offensive couldn't get a first down to save their lives and the defense was always on the field and the corners would get gassed out. UMass and Ucon had a better yard per gain and points per gain percentage than my poor lobos.

That Holy Cross loss was Randy Edsall's final game for sure as UConn head coach or probably ever in college football.

I didn’t expect FCS teams, but damn if Presbyterian weren’t just pathetic to watch. They had 2 big wins and got throttled for the rest of the season

Honestly, I thought FIU was the worst team out of all of them. They were the 3rd worst for the longest time, but some off-the-field antics really pushed them to #1 in a flash.

Arkansas State was an outlier; Butch Jones walked into a team that was ravaged by transfers, injuries, and zero depth on defense. We have lots of talent and skill, and finished with a higher ranked recruiting class than Cincy for 2022, so we will be back quickly.
