Interesting! I never saw (maybe it means I dont remember ever seeing) carnaval in Cyprus. I thought carnaval was exclusively a Catholic phenomenon as it is here in Switzerland. (And France, Belgium, Brazil etc.) That also explains why it is not a tradition in UK (not majority Roman Catholic since King Henry VIII and the 1500's)
