Somehow the image of a slightly overweight white tourist in a Hawaiian shirt carrying a camera is more the symbol of Hawaii than anybody was actually Hawaiian.

Not to mention, I believe the Lahaina Kanuupoli & Pacific railway was just starting, a beautiful scenic railway such a shame it met its fate not long ago
