The 2001 Tony Awards had a similar but better opening. They started with the dancers tapping on stage, then they cut to pre-filmed footage of them leaving Radio City Music Hall to go tapping up 42nd Street, into the subway at Times Square, tapping through a subway car, then they cut back live to the dancers tapping back into Radio City. Fab!

I feel sorry for the girl at 2:45 who gets pushed out of the line and has to rush across the stage.

The funniest part is 4:00 - 4:05.

You can see the image shaking because the camera is picking up the vibrations. Looks like the camera operator forgot to do his homework. He failed to consider the size of the production (this show had 44 chorus dancers on the payroll) and the condition of the stage (temporary structure built for the awards gala). That's a risky combination no matter which way you look at it. Health and Safety officials must have been working overtime. 😅
