The Dishonest Steward | The obligations of Stewardship. In all four of the gospels, there are some parables that are difficult to understand, especially if we read it in the modern context. One of those is the parable of the dishonest steward, which you can find in the gospel of St. Luke 16:1-13. The master wants to do two things: 1. Ask the steward for a full accounting of his actions and then 2. Fire him! So before the steward lost his job, he called in his master's debtors ONE by ONE by ONE and reduced their debts. Ironically, his master proceeded to commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently".

Paul, thanks for your well-prepared and lively presentation. May I ask two questions? Before reducing their debts, why do you think the manager (who was holding the contracts and therefore knew the debts of the debtors) asked the debtors to tell him what their debts were? And if this manager was really acting dishonestly, why would he expect a potential employer to hire a self-serving dishonest person? (I have an idea about these, but I'd like to know yours.)

There's only one Father. Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
