Thank you for the high praise on the series! As you mentioned in your review, these guides are a labor of love for our whole team. They're built off the narrative structure and elements I've found have worked really well to bring new players, young or old, into the hobby.

As a kid I wasn’t exactly great at convincing others to play dnd, but I spent countless hours flipping through the Monster Manual. Little me would have adored this book!

We picked these up for my daughter and she loves them! She's even recopied whole sections into a notebook so she could "memorize" the content. She's going to be a boss DM some day. :-)

My party is comprised of a bunch of middle aged men now with kids that are just old and interested enough in watching dad play DnD that these books would be great to introduce them into play with. The old Dragon magazine used to have articles in it that covered aspects of game play as these books do. I really appreciate detailing the “soft” aspects of game play including ecology of critters, spell effects and non-standard usage, and how to dungeoneer.

Questing Jim Zub has done the D&D comics that some coincide with some of the 5e adventures. The Publisher is IDW and worth a look if you like D&D and comics. So far releases are D&D: Legends of Baldur's Gate, Shadoes of the Vampire, Frost Giant's Fury, Evil At Baldur's Gate. They also have the characters Minsk and Boo. Also worked on Rick and Morty vs Dungeons & Dragons.

Bought the full set for my daughter who was 9yrs when we started collecting them, and she loves them, uses them to look up tactics for monsters she thinks will be in an adventure, such a great buy and really well laid out and easy to read for young D&D fans. I really appreciate them not including stat blocks.

Wow, these books look very well laid-out. Almost like recent (mature) OSR products. :)
I think they might be nice to have around for inspiration even if you're an adult. In fact, I might order them for myself to enhance my OSE collection since without stat-blocks and explicit rules the books seem quite system-agnostic and otherwise I wouldn't buy most 5E related stuff.

Nice review! I've really enjoyed these books with my family. I love the dungeon-building section of Dungeons and Tombs too.

Now all I need to do is convince my wife these are appropriate for my 4 year old

Thanks for this review. I'm going to pick these up for my 7 year old daughter. I've been running the old B9 Castle Caldwell module for her using OSE and she's loving it. I just purchased Knave by the way and I'm impressed with how you designed it to be so compatible with old modules like B9. I'm planning on running a session for my daughter using Knave (with OSE monster stats) this weekend.

“Kids love flipping through this books”
I can certainly attest to that. Before I became very familiar with D&D I remember seeing in middle school 3 kids at a lunch table flipping through the 3.5 MM, marveling at one of the dragons. It stood out to me at the time and it was only later when I realized what they were exactly flipping through.

As an adult I love these books and pre-ordered the new upcoming Dragons and Treasures one as well. They are so neat. Lovely work.

Bought them all, no regrets, I read these more than I read the PHB/DM/MMs for 5th Ed.

Thank you for posting this review! I was wondering what the interior of these books looked like, but couldn't find ANYTHING on their homepage or bookstore sites.

Looks awesome!

These have information you can't find anywhere. My kids loved them.

I startet buying them (the German translations) for my son who really should practice reading more. And it worked. He reads them without complaint and wants to discuss certain classes or monsters with me. Now I am waiting for the translation of Beasts and Behemoth.

I was on the fence about getting these for our nieces and nephews, so thank you for the flip-through. Definitely getting these.

I wish that these books had a light, freeform rules system that could serve as an alternative Basic Rules in the same way that the first generation of White Wolf Introductory Kits had a very simplified set of rules that was quite distinct from the full game but usable in its own right. I was fascinated by the D&D Tiny Adventures facebook game when it came out, not because it was an amazing game to play, but because it was such an intriguing distillation of D&D down to simple rules and short but evocative snippets of text. There really was the promise of a minimalist D&D played at the table lurking somewhere within this game that could have been developed into a great casual intro to the D&D experience.

Saw this video on Monday, bought the softcover books that evening - they were delivered the next day and left them out after school. My 4th and 2nd grader picked them up that evening and now we are playing a game on the weekend!

Great video for making we aware of these books!
