Before the advent of Turnpike roads, this Holloway bore witness to the bustling traffic of trade, leaving its mark in the earth's gentle curves.
Imbued with history, the Wakefield Gate stands as a testament to the town's early prosperity, weaving through picturesque landscapes from its origin in Hipperholme to its grand finale in the stunning town of Halifax. Here, amidst architectural marvels, echoes of Anne Lister's footsteps resonate, as she traversed this very path to tend to her estates, leaving behind a legacy still visible in the structures she once graced.
Commissioned by the Halifax Civic Trust, this captivating short film unveils the hidden gem that is the Wakefield Gate, a tribute to its significance in the town's narrative. As part of their 60th anniversary endeavor, the Trust endeavors to shine a spotlight on this lesser-known treasure, unveiling new signposts, informative boards, newsletters, and a walkers' guide to ensure its story endures.
