I have been there. Another interesting point is that the harbor never came under enemy attack and so the cannons were never fired in battle. That said, the fort’s construction was very interesting. While it sat on a hill, the profile of the fort was very small and I imagine it would have been tough for attacking ships to hit. The barracks and ordinance rooms were also partially recessed which would make them a hard to hit. While the cannons were few, they were much bigger than what a sailing vessel would have, and thus, had greater range. The buildings were pretty small. I imagine that the fort was probably manned by no more than 25-30.

It's a shame that people dump their trash inside the canon barrels...no respect

Could it be that tour guides are purposely misleading so no one attempt to test one?

I know for me I'd have a 12# mountain howitzer at my flagpole if I could afford it just to hammer in the point. Who said I couldn't have one.

@1:27.

I’m not sure what you overheard exactly. However, the tour guides most likely know more about the history than you do. I don’t think they were saying that the cannons weren’t original pieces. They were most likely saying that some of the cannons weren’t the original cannons that were installed by Lord Dunmore when the fort was built, and were placed there later.

And that is the case. Some of the canons in Nassau were replaced in recent times.
