Jump on board at the legendary Motor Ranch VR46 like you’ve never seen it before, to discover how The Doctor himself, with Franco Morbidelli, Pecco Bagnaia, and the Sky Team VR46 Academy practice dirt track riding to help chase down Grand Prix podiums.

Ask any motorcycle racer about going fast and within seconds the words ‘feeling’ and ‘control’ are usually mentioned. Controlling the power, and feeling the bike slide and move are some of the most important skills for any racer to master in their quest for the podium. At Valentino Rossi’s Motor Ranch VR46, in northern Italy, a bespoke dirt flat track incorporating two ovals and a TT-style circuit, help riders of the VR46 Academy as well as The Doctor himself keep their skills razor-sharp.

Starting as a youngster, I raced flattrack every chance for about 10 years, and played with racing it after that to some degree.
I was never any genius at it but eventually I made expert, and always had the most fun doing it.

Those skills are different skills and they stay with you. I trailride, Im always sliding, its too much fun.
I streetride, if there's gravel on pavement it has never caused a problem. Getting so used to sliding and sliding and sliding gives a person skills to deal with all kinds of situations on its the most fun ever!

Yep, absolutely right. This is why all the World Champions in the early 90s came from the US and from dirt track. They were all able to back wheel steer the 2-strokes on the race track.

An old timer superstar named Kenny Roberts started the “dirt training for roadracers” thing back in the 70’s. He kept a fleet of XR100 Hondas available for lack of grip training on dirt ovals and TT tracks. Some World champions trained at Kenny’s house. It’s the only way to learn. Good stuff.

Perfect place while in lockdown! Agree dirt bike racers do well road racing. Too many electrics now less sliding 😐. Can't wait until the bikes are back on!

Imagine trying to build this track in California. The state agencies would tie you up for 20 years with environmental impact reports. But Valentino is legend in Italy.
