Yeah, when you learn what actually is going on with a tan or sunburn it makes you wonder why people don't wear sunscreen and not use tan beds. It is literally cell death. It is the mildest version of acute radiation sickness. I once had a burn so bad I was nauseated and had a splitting headache in my temples for a week. It's not good.

The skin will normally start to flake and peel after a few days and will usually fully heal within 7 days. While sunburn is often short-lived and mild, it's important to try to avoid it, because it can increase your chances of developing serious health problems, such as skin cancer, in later life so be careful pot some sun screen on it and be safe

A trained clinician knows the difference between necessary intervention and when to let the body deal with itself. That is WHY they train. Good post.

I burn real easy, like 30 minutes in direct sun and I'm a lobster-tomato hybrid. Sunscreen is my best friend, I have it in my bag at all times.

My sister had a severe case where she even had an allergic reaction too. I remember it took her at least a month to heal.

I had one horrible sunburn on my upper chest when I was around 15. It peeled in sheets and was very painful. The skin has been extremely sensitive over the past 24 years and I've developed a lot of strange moles and freckles. No sign of skin cancer, but it's only a matter of time in Arizona.

I used to burn like that when I was young! 😅

This happened to me when I was 12. I was in such a great pain that I couldn't lie down and sleep. I was sleeping sitting on the couch. There were huge painful blisters everywhere on my body. Luckily I didn't get any scars or pigmentation from it. I think this is because I was young. I don't believe my skin would still be healthy after that kind of damage nowadays.

Draining water blisters is a relief, too.

When I was a child around 60 years ago, my parents favoured skin protection was olive oil and vinegar. Sun damage and long term effects weren’t known then. My mother was British and Italian and burnt very easily. Her skin used to peel like that and my brother and I had great fun ‘peeling mummy’. At the age of 75 she found a melanoma, caught in time and had to have major skin grafts after its removal.

and here I am complaining about the the heat bumps I get from being in direct sunlight.

but seriously I got these heat bumps or sun rash whatever and it’s taking a long time to go away.
