Very important correction, Ukraine has never been part of the Russian Federation. It was an SSR, Soviet Socialist Republic, until it declared independence. Ukraine had been part of the pre-Soviet Russian Empire, but that's a very different thing.

We could always get historically pedantic and say Russia should be part of Ukraine... ie. the Kyivan Rus.

Historically, for the past few hundred years, when Russia was a combatant in Europe, it was soon discovered that Russia's "promises" were not worth the paper they were written on! Many things have happened since in Russia, but the uselessness of Russian promises has NOT CHANGED!

Why trust Erdogan to be at the table, while it has been clear he is playing both sides for his own needs. Europe/Ukraine doesn't need these monitoring troops as it can provide its own. Giving Erdogan a seat at the table would be giving away information and a position of power for very little.
