Vegan Cheese Taste Test | The Edgy Veg
Показать описание
In this episode of the Edgy Veg Candice partners up with a few of her friends for a vegan cheese taste test. They taste test vegan cheeses from several well known brands and give you their pure unadulterated opinion on each one, also rating them on a scale of 1 to 5 based on several factors.
Candice and her friends taste tested vegan cheeses from Earth Island, Tofutti, and Daiya. The first vegan cheese on the chopping block was the Diaya deliciously dairy free cheddar style slices. Each cheese was tested raw first and then melted to really get an accurate sense of what could be accomplished in a tasty way with each vegan cheese. The Daiya raw cheddar slices were commented as having a "butter oil" flavor to them, neither Candice, James, or their friends seemed to especially impressed. There was a much different opinion from the group regarding the Daiya cheddar when melted with ratings ranging from the low 2's to the upper 4's. Vegan cheese is always going to be interpreted differently by each user, this one seems to worth the time to try melted yourself. Candice and James were not blown away by the flavor, they seemed to feel indifferent regarding it. However, one of their friends was quite pleased with the melted flavor of the vegan cheese.
The second vegan cheese taste tested was from the Earth Island brand and came in a package simply marked Cheddar style slices. You can get a clear picture of it in the video. Again the first vegan cheese taste test here was for the raw version of the cheese in question. The results from the raw taste were overwhelmingly positive with comments about how it really felt like cheese when you ate it and that it greatly resembled dairy based cheese product. It was a bit more of a mixed bag when it came to the melted cheese test. No one rated it under a 3 and several people rated it at 4 or higher. It is a safe bet to say this would be a good all around cheese to include in any vegan recipe based on these vegan cheese taste testing results.
The third vegan cheese taste tested by the group was from the also well-known brand Tofutti and was their version of cream cheese. Several of the testers found the vegan cream cheese to have a good texture on the bagel itself but thought it was lacking in flavor and texture when consumed. James and Candice were thoroughly unimpressed with the cream cheese substitute but one the testers did rate it as high as a 4. These results are so varied it's hard to draw a solid conclusion other than to say this may not be a good cream cheese substitute for you and if you need a cream cheese subsitute you may just have to try this one for yourself and see if it's up to par.
The last vegan cheese taste tested by Candice and friends was the Earth Island vegan gourmet cheddar. This is supposed to be a higher grade cheese than the standard Earth Island vegan cheddar taste tested earlier. Beginning with the raw test one tester noted specifically that the cheese itself looked spongy and sweaty and found that to be rather undesirable. Straight across the board all the cheese tasters found this particular one to be lacking in every area, going so far as to make bad faces when tasting the cheese. The same kind of face you would make if you ate something rotten and needed to spit it out immediately. Several testers gave this a zero across the board, Candice especially found it to be distasteful. The take-a-way message here is very clear, avoid this vegan cheese at all costs.
That concludes the results recap from the vegan cheese taste test. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Edgy Veg. We hope that the sacrifices made in testing this cheese will steer you clear of poorly made vegan cheeses that should be avoided and towards delicious tasting vegan cheeses that should be applauded.
