Hello and welcome to MARBLED! My name is Marie-Anne Wehbeh and I am a Lebanese paper marbler.

This video is a beautiful quick short where I demonstrate a more simple technique called "Suminagashi", which translates in Japanese to "floating ink". It is one of the oldest forms of marbling and unlike the more elaborate process of Western marbling, it uses only ink floating on water. The purpose is the same though: once the print is made, it can never be reproduced twice due to the spontaneous nature of the aqueous movements.

In this video you will see me marbling on newspaper. This is part of a special non-commercial project I am currently working on for 2021.
