I am really glad prof. Kashiwara mentioned the importance of focus, that is of carelessness about the existing world, and possibly existing formalisms, when one explores or researches a new topic.
This is an aspect I always felt was true but never heard anyone speak of it before.

Math can seem inaccessible as there are many skills that go into being a mathematician. Having creativity and originality is not enough as much of modern mathematics is technically complicated and takes imagination to understand. I like to think that by being a tourist of mathematical literature, one picks up creativity from the writers of said literature.
