what happens to the 9? becasue if you mulitply the brackets (2x-1)(x-4) you dont get 9, im confused

What if I cancel everything and the final answer is a factorised quadratic, however, there is no common bracket at the top and bottom? Do I leave them in the brackets form?

1:40 1 and 4 dont multiply to give a resuly of 9?

2x²-9x+4/ x²-2x-8 = (2x-1)(x-4)/(x-4)(x+2)= 2x-1/x+2

I think I understand is it always expanding it and then simply filing I think
