2019 Jaguar I-Pace | CarGurus Test Drive Review

The all-electric Jaguar I-PACE offers Tesla shoppers a genuine alternative in the luxury EV segment. With a design that blends sport sedan with crossover, few cars look anything like the new Jaguar EV. A pair of electric motors provide all-wheel drive, and to the tune of 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of how you feel about the I-PACE’s design, one truth is inarguable: this machine is quick.

The electric motors are managed by a single-speed transmission, and power comes on immediately, thanks to the motors’ instantaneous torque delivery. Inside, shoppers can spec an I-PACE with cloth seats, two types of genuine leather, or the standard faux leather interior. When testing the (nearly $90,000) I-PACE, Cliff Atiyeh and CarGurus determined that, if you’re going to buy one, the top-tier HSE trim is the one to buy.

Jaguar does not offer Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto, but the standard infotainment system looks slick—when it works properly. Cliff continued to have trouble with Jaguar-Land Rover’s infotainment reliability in the I-PACE, and felt the car’s charging-station finder was an incomplete effort. In the end, he relied heavily on third-party apps to find places to recharge the I-PACE.

Got mine in January 2019. It is awesome. Unfortunate I have had a couple rear ended instances and the I-PACE performed well. There are a lot more DC fast charges today and you can take it on long trips. Averaging about 2.5 mile/Wh.

What is it with this needless, stupid jabbing away at EV range on every electric car review?!

Constantly putting them down and sneering, as if 250 miles of range isn't suitable for 99.99% of use - which it absolutely is.

It's really starting to piss me off.

Drove one of these on a extended test in October. It's almost the perfect do anything car. The only thing missing is a decent charger

When reviewers mention the exorbitant amount of time it takes to recharge, they are forgetting that most EVs owners do not run down their battery range to zero . The Chevy Bolt recharges from a home battery Charge Point charger at a rate of 24 miles per hour of charge.

Saw one in red in so cal. Looked great. I'd still suffer from range anxiety, though.

Those sound effects almost ruins it. You can turn that off?

Does Ipace have regular updates like Tesla, or once purchased that’s it?

7:24 Two days on a 110V household outlet, not a 240V dryer/oven household outlet

Nice video, but you should use a gimbal to stabilize the video, it gave me motion sickness at times

FYI, after the most recent software upgrade, mine is getting around 255 range, the charging network in the US is coming....

Many inconveniences from an internal combustion vehicle?? HA! 😆 (Never going to a gas station and getting things done while charging, like sleeping or shopping, almost no maintenance, and much more)

TOO QUIET? isn't that a good thing?

Most alluring (except price). I drive about twenty miles a day
so once a week I plug it in overnight. No gas stations or oil changes
not hard to take.

Wanted this but the charging makes it a problem so that makes it a no for me sadly.

Nope. Get the "S" trim get the luxuries you can't do without. The "HSE" is also heavier and reduces driving range.

"totals about 90 grand...pretty expensive" Right. Don't downplay it. If 90 grand isn't EXPENSIVE what is?

This guy uses linguistic programming in the first minute, to incept negative impressions about electric cars. I've only watched 1 minute so far, but the video is heavy with it.

If you can own a $70K-$90K EV, you're going to have the ChargePoint charger at your home. Overly stressing about the range while also leaving this reality out of your review, does a disservice to your viewers.

Thank you for this review. I have to agree with a valid point you made: Tesla interior is TRASH. You pay all that money and they use the same manufacturer that places the same parts on a 2016 Chrysler 200 AND all of the Tesla models. Not saying that it's a bad thing, but I don't want a Chrysler part on my $100k ride. Sorry. I love this Jag!
