I had the same experience with another Roald Dahl book. Just the words used my daughter couldn't get into the story and understand it.

I love that you are doing this series! I'm always looking for quality unit/novels studies!
You should research Bloom's Taxonomy. It's actually pretty interesting and useful. It's basically just a hierarchy of questioning. So like simple knowledge checking questions to deep thought questions. I really helps to make sure you are asking a variety of types of questions. One of the things I still use today even though I'm not in a classroom anymore!

I have five kids. There's no way searching for the 1st person who said eureka is helpful! It's interesting but not helpful what so ever. I don't have time😭😭😂😂

Roald dahl was my favorite author as a child but as an adult when I went to do a read aloud the wording was very eccentric and even the vocabulary was not appropriate for me
When I was younger I loved it but I don’t think I fully grasped it so I totally understand

This was great! We listened to one of his books via audiotape last year. I was lost, one kid kind of followed along and the other was over it. I remember not being able to grasp James and the giant peach in middle school even though I loved the movie. But I agree, great story lines.

Thanks for sharing! I had this one at the very top of my list of lit guides to try out too but after seeing what you pointed out I don't think it would be a good fit for us either. Excited to see what you think of the rest of the guides you try.
