Jeremy Hunt: Trump leaving NATO is the real threat

Former Chancellor and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt believes we’re focusing on the wrong concern.

Yes, tariffs would be painful - but, according to Hunt, we should be far more worried about a real possibility: Trump pulling the US out of NATO.

It’s a threat Trump has made before, unless European nations boost their defence spending - something Hunt supports.

We should leave NATO. I am OK with a couple of our allies such as the UK but by and large we can do so much better with our defense spending.

Yet another UK politician with a reputation for 'moderation', with a cowardly, 'Trump has a point', position. Have been observing Hunt ever since he entered politics and never failed to notice his ability to smooth talk his way out of a pickle, much like Cameron. Credit to the English private education system that prepares you with this skill - you feel conned only an interval after the encounter with the product of this system.

That the US leaves NATO may be the best thing that could happen to Europe. NATO made sense while there was a Soviet threat. NATO should have been dissolved after the Cold War. Without a US presence no US nukes would threaten Russia. No NATO enlargement into Eastern Europe but a strong role for the EU. I am convinced that there would be no conflict in Ukraine had NATO been dissolved. We Europeans are mature enough to resolve our differences without US interference. What I find ironic today is that in the post-Cold War period several European powers advocated for a more independent course. This the Americans prevented. And now we all pay the price.

OMG! Mr Hunt talks about DEI groups as though they’re separate - they’re party of our society along with white men & woman. We all should find similarities rather than differences & spread our economic wealth fairly across all in our society from the bottom to top!
