I am 12 years old and I find this video really interesting and I am really satisfied with that quote he says at the end “Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Plain and simple... technology was supposed to bring us closer and make us smarter; we're just getting dumber and pushing loved ones farther and farther away

I think this whole speech is very accurate in showing the harsh reality in how so many people around the world are actually addicted to their cell phones. It’s an issue that lots of kids fail to acknowledge because it’s so common. I personally know multiple people in my life who are addicted to their phones and it’s sad to see how common it is.

I am 13 years old and I was a victim of cell addiction. It wasn't a problem when I looked at my phone and played numerous videos for hours but then later own I noticed some changes in myself. Being distant with my family members, having anxiety problems and a lot of temper in the sense I get angry really easily for small things and I also became poor in studies. I just wanna give a small advice to students my age, phone addiction makes you loose a lot of things and yourself. I recommend you all to take very less time in front of the screen, cause once you get addicted it's hard to come back to reality instead lets take care of ourselves and focus for our future.

Gives me hope to see someone so young talking about this issue. Thanks, Tanner!

Bravo Tanner! While it is fairly common to hear adults complaining about this “pandemic” of cell phone addiction, it is so much more powerful to hear it coming from a bright and intelligent young person like yourself. You are humble and aware. Thank you for your sharing and thoughtfulness. We ALL have work to do in this area! (and I’m in my 50’s :-)

I found this so relevant and I love that a middle-schooler is saying these things. I actually quoted him in a podcast on the dangers of social media...

*It is sad that almost nobody cares about cell phone addiction*

We’ve perpetuated a world where we all need devices to carry out life for the most part. I pay bills, gps for work, keep reminders for side business, need calls and texts from family. It is definitely hard to have control rather than the devices usefulness itself.

Phone addiction often reduces face-to-face interactions, weakening real-life social skills and relationships.

I knew something was very wrong with the world when I saw people on bikes glued to their cell phone, on skateboards glued to their cell phone, driving a car and glued to their cell phone, in movie theaters and glued to their cell phone, a mother pushing her baby in a carriage and glued to her cell phone, a mother walking her little daughter home from school and glued to her cell phone, people walking in a park and glued to their cell phone, a father playing soccer with his daughter at the park and periodically checking his cell phone. My advice is PUT YOUR CELL PHONE DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU.

It is all about balance. When you go to see a movie with your spouse, leave your phone at home. When you visit friends, put your phone away while you visit. You can grab a pic together just before leaving for home. When you go for a walk, enjoy nature, your dogs or children or significant other. Do not worry about social media. Be in the moment. Phone watching while crossing a street or worse yet, driving while using your phone, could be fatal for you or someone else. If you have an unfortunate aggressive encounter with someone, do not use your phone to spread the details of this toxic encounter with people who have nothing to do with the encounter and who do NOT want to know about it. Limit your time on the phone. Leave it at home and see if you can feel happy and comfortable without it. If not, you are addicted and no addictions are good for you. They imprison you! You will end up not sleeping well, getting depressed, feeling unfulfilled, because you are wasting precious time. Use them to uplift, educate or capture beautiful memories. Limit your time spent on them to one or two hours...no more! Do not document every minute of your life. Live instead!

The last words are true, me while seeing a wired cloud or beautiful sunset. My brain not enjoying the scenery, instead taking a snap and upload it online makes me happy. I don't wanna waste my time for living somebody else's life

I deleted most of my social media apps off of my phone besides discord and Snapchat, because these two tend to have the most privacy. It really makes you come to reality of how many friends/connections you actually have vs the fake connections in the virtual world.

As a child, I used to be so worried that I won’t be like everyone else because everyone has Instagram, Snapchat, and more. But honestly, I would go back in time and thank my mom for not letting me have social media, and honestly to never let me and my brother have it at all. I regret using social media.

It’s a waste of energy, and the sad part is people who have mental disorders seek online forums that do absolutely nothing for them but spit the same negative symptoms they are trying to address or fix. It’s ironic as the thing they are trying to use to address their mental illness is actually causing it.

It gets to the point where adolescents and especially young teens can’t form a stable sense of self, and base their identity off of what everyone thinks. They turn down long-term dreams for short-term acceptance (fake acceptance), and it’s actually very sad.

The world could possibly be a better place if the like button didn’t exist, and the like button was a clever component of social media from day one. Tech companies/social media companies are feeding off of social media usage, and the more likes users get, the more they’ll be apt to continue to use these outlets, therefore giving the companies what they want.

"...talk about something from the 1900s." First time I heard a kid say something like that.
