100 arrested after mass looting in Chicago

Chicago police exchanged gunfire with looters and arrested more than 100 people after crowds swarmed Chicago's luxury commercial district early Monday, looting stores, smashing windows and clashing with officers for hours, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said.

Brown called the outbreak "pure criminality," and Mayor Lori Lightfoot sought to distance the incident from the "righteous uprising" in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25.

If you watch the full video of the Chiefs comments you will hear him say “criminals took to the street with confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions.” My question for the Chief, Mayor and City Council is .... Why would criminals believe there will be no consequences? I thought all these people fear police. Could it be that the city has tied the hands of police officers and publicly vilified them?

This is the press conference where Mayor Lightfoot refused to answer questions and walked away, leaving this man to step up. He did. Somehow he manages to juggle the difficult political world in Chicago, still stand by his officers and does it with a cool head. This guy is under so much pressure right now but he's handling it like a true boss, making it look easy. Hats off to you Mr. David Brown sir.
