Thank you! My vents were so filthy. I started by cleaning the outside, after I saw your video and realized they came off easily, I removed them completely. To my surprise there was mold on the other side! I cleaned them with soapy water and they were much better. My house feels cleaner now.

Did you have to re seal your vents because this is what I have to do now. Noticing its been effecting my allergies too.

I recommend wearing at least one mask while handling so much dust & dirt including bugs. Why breathe in all that stuff? Probably gloves are a good idea too.

I have not. I'm in a rental and it's SO filthy I'm scared to take them off for fear of what might crawl out. But I NEED to. Our vents are DISGUSTING! Lord help me get it done. I pray no bugs or critters crawl out. 😳

If the air vents are that dirty, the air filters are not working well enough., or are not changed often enough, or maybe at some time in the past
this was the case and dust accumulated in the ducts. Just cleaning the cover of the vent is not enough in those cases, as the dust is already
in the air ducts.

Sometimes this happens because the filters are not good quality, or they have not been changed often enough. I am just finding out more about this myself. We live in an apartment, and the last time we were given a filter by maintenanceit looked very flimsy, not the quality we were used to getting... I put it into the furnace anyway, but our old furnace doesn't fit newer filters, so we have to put the filter in the side of the big compartment. My husband and I started getting sinus headaches and sneezing much more frequently. At first it didn't dawn on me, but
after a couple months of this it finally occurred to me to check the filter. The fliter was so flimsy it was lying sideways at an angle, and NOT blocking where the air goes through.
The utility room where the furnace is is very dusty as well - the building is 50+ years old and it looks like the dust was never cleaned in that room for all those years.
I had tried to vacuum the cement floor, but there is dust on the exposed wires and pipes in the exposed unfinished ceiling.

considering that one low quality flimsy filter that was given to us, I am about to talk to maintenance about the filters used over the years, and
whether the air ducts themselves have ever been cleaned. SMH. it can be a real health hazard when the air ducts are accumulating dust to that degree.
