When I was hanging out with Toots Deville that winter of '77 I asked her if she could please arrange for me to meet Nico and she infomed "Tuinals and pizza messed her up, she's 300 lbs now" and I almost slipped and fell in the snow from the shock. Then several years later she had tea with her in Manchester and said she was one of the most sane people she ever met on the planet. Nico resonates with my traumas, my broken and bruised German side, my mother who was forced be in Bund Deutcher Madel before WW II, my years of drug addiction, my deceased boyfriend of German ancestry, my sadomasochism, the endless culturally inherited sorrows, ad infinitum. When I was a kid growing up I never understood why the Americans always seemed so mindlessly cheerful and I'm afraid they won't understand remotely what I am talking about. Nico always felt like home to me.

For some obscure reason, I've always been in love with the intro of this song. It reminds me of all the great things in my life that was buried by bad memories. It makes me feel like I'm in the present moment. I am listening to this the night before my wedding with my wife in Korea. This song has always resonated with me and I couldn't think of a better song to reflect my life on than this song.

I've listened this version in some of her concert, when for a short time we have lived in the same flat in Brixton, she also had a great band playng behind her. I'm happy that many people appreciate it.
