I wonder why Pigafetta was not mentioned in the expedition, he joined Magellan as an explorer and a historian who recorded the events that took place during Magellan's encounter with the native Filipinos.

You ignored the role of the Raja Humabon of Cebu in all of this. Who initially asked for Magellan's aid against the Mactan. After the battle he even offered a kings ransom in copper/iron (An invaluable resource to the islanders) for the return of Magellan's body. Datu Lapulapu refused the offer and kept it as a war trophy instead.

Actually when the spanish came back, they asked the locals of mactan on what happened to magellan's body. One of the earliest Augustinians assigned in Cebu who interviewed the old residents of that island, Fray Rodrigo Aganduru Moriz, claimed that the great navigator was decapitated in accordance with the martial custom of the natives where the victor took a trophy, which was a part of his body, commonly the head, and placed it on the tip of a lance. The natives regarded the body of Magellan as their "dangin", which, according to Fray Alonso de Mentrida’s sixteenth century Diccionario de la Lengua Bisaya, was “a trophy of their enemy killed or captured in war ( blason, trofeo de enemigo, muerto o cautivo en guerra, la persona asi muerta o cautiva). In a society which put premium on prestige and prowess not only as social virtues but also equated with mystical qualities, the body of Magellan constituted as the most valuable war booty. It was suggested that, based on the prevailing custom of the pre-conquest Visayan, Magellan was indeed decapitated, as they did to those they conquered, “which was their great desire, ” wrote a 17th century Augustinian friar.

This act by Magellan became the discovery of the Philippines.. thereby Filipinos named after king Philip of Spain ...as far as we know, Magellan was buried in Mactan island in Cebu Philippines...

8:27 - The alliance that formed Spain was between Queen Isabel (not Isabela) of Castille and King Fernando of Aragon (the video flips the kingdoms and says Isabel was Queen of Aragon and Fernando was King of Castille). -- Correction needed!!

Columbus never though he was in India. He was already well aware of the route to India, and he knew he would be discovering nothing by traveling there. The confusion comes from his own writings where he describes the native population as "Indio" which simply meant indigenous in his terminology at the time. The term is based on the Latin "Indi" meaning singular or first which originates in Greek based on the conquest of Alexander reaching no further east than India, as India was considered the origin of civilization at the time. Columbus using the term India to describe the new world was simply a comment on how ancient he believed it to be.

A minor point: the video leaves one with the impression that only 18 men survived the expedition. Actually, on the way home the Victoria stopped at Cape Verde. The Portuguese there detained 12 of its crew. These 12 were sent back to Spain after several months. The Trinidad surrendered to the Portuguese in Ternate in the Mollucas and its crew was repatriated in 1525 and 1526. Some of them died at sea. Five made it to Portugal alive. Five others were buried at sea after they had crossed their outbound longitude. That makes it 35 survivors of the Armada de Maluco, all of them circumnavigators. Counting the 5 buried at sea, the total is 40 circumnavigators.

Wow! I love the way you deliver content. I'm hoping your channel could soon make a video series of historical events. Like world war 1, 2, ancient kingdoms, Christianity, and etc.

More success to you 💪 cheers!

Magellan arrived in Melaka with the Portuguese fleet led by Lopez D'Sequeira in 1509
They were the first Europeans to reach the port city of Melaka but had to escape after several were held prisoner by the Sultan of Melaka.
Two years later in 1511, Magellan would return to Melaka with the Portuguese armada led by Alfonso De Albuquerque.
The city was subsequently conquered by the Portuguese. In 1512, while in Melaka, Magellan purchase a young slave whom he named Henry the Black...or known in Malay as Panglima Awang. The slave was credited to be among those who sailed around the world. He became a good companion of Magellan and was set free under his will.

theres a passage of Figafetta, Magellan’s scribe about them acquiring giants in Americas, two of them. But died in the middle of the voyage. The also noticed giants in the coastline of Americas dancing.

Many Spanish were mad at Magellan because he didnt want to share the maps of the route with the other captains. So they revelled. One ship went back to Spain from South America and Magellan was condemned in absentia. He died making bad desicions all over. Some even accused him of been a double agent.

I'm sure others share my experience when I say, when I was in school I hated history class and nothing put me to sleep quicker than my textbook, however, as an adult that all changed.

I was at the battle shore of mactan in lapu-lapu last 2018. I can tell that the shore is shallow and it would be very difficult fight for europeans as they wore armory. I think it's lengthy walk from shore.
