My mom used to make these for my brother. We called them Cavalry shirts, and my brother even wore it like John Wayne, 1 or even 2 buttons undone. Mind you, this was in the last 70's... Not 1870's but 1970's. OH, and she even piped them in yellow

Maybe another advantage. If you are a sloppy eater, you take off the bib while eating, and then hide the mess you made under the bib when done. And viola!, clean shirt! 😂

Never knew it would be so much fun learning about shirts.

The fouled anchor is the emblem Navy CPO. After 20 years in the Navy, I still have no idea of the significance. I seem to remember them telling us in boot camp, but that was nearly 50 years ago. I’m old, I forget stuff, LOL!

That was great! I have one like what Duke wore in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

The music, Leaning on the everlasting arms. It took me back to a different time and place. I had almost forgotten how much I miss it.

These have very quickly become my favorite series of videos

Santee, you always add to my knowledge of the old west. As a weapons guy, I have always sort of overlooked the more mundane aspects of the period, such as clothing. Thanks.

Well, you sure solved a mystery for me. Nice to see they're still making them. As a schooner driver, I may have to get one with the anchor-bib.

Interesting to know this about a simple shirt design. That part with Billy was fun, stealing the shirt off a dead body, that's our Billy. :3

Another finest kind tutorial. I
Always admired those shirts on movie actors but had no idea what they were. Mucho gracias! Yours is the only western themed channel I Patreonize. Your fancy dancy edits and camera framing really spice up a potentially dull topic. That and your visial style adds to the charm. The norm for channels seem to be voice overs or talking heads. You take your channel to an EI level (Entertaining and Informative). A lot of extra work. I would hope more viewers appreciate the difference and Patreonize. Move 'em out!

I had one made from heavy cotton flannel and it was my favorite shirt. The bib gave an extra layer of cloth that definitely protected against the wind and the cold.

Love it. Best Old West content. You and Mrs. Pew Pew have a beautiful and blessed weekend.

Now, if I show this to my wife she will MAKE me wear them everyday. It seems I am always slopping something on my chest and have ruined several shirts from the accumulated stains. You could probably even turn the bib part inside out for eating and re-button the clean side out after meals! Ingenious!

The Billy the Kid kid looks great. Very authentic. I knew immediately who he was supposed to be portraying.

I used to have 2 of these. I loved them, but I outgrew them. Need a couple more of them now.
