I have carried the Leatherman ARC for a little over a year now. This tool has exceeded my expectations in man, many ways. In this video I walk you through my personal leatherman journey and discuss my preferences in tool platforms. After one year, I am absolutely happy with the ARC. It is my multitool of choice.

I love mine, had since last December for my birthday, I'm a surge guy, carried it for 5 years now an on many camp trips, it is definitely significantly heavier tool but still it's robust, I love how one handed quickly Arc blade an tools are deployed

Im a carpenter, and I just ordered the arc. Thought about the surge but the tool set and free platform sold me on the arc. I agree that the magnacut isn’t really necessary for a multitool, just a way for them to charge extra. If they made a tool with the arcs toolset and the robustness of the surge that would be ideal I think.

Never seen that Charge G10 in brown!! Must be rare!!

The steep price is partly due to the made-in-USA aspect. Many requested Leatherman to move more of its production to the US. Now the plier head says USA on it. Only P-series tools have the USA on the plier head.

Love the arc, it’s become my daily driver. Appreciate its magna cut blade, it’s replaced carrying a separate dedicated knife. Arc + the extra tools on the Signal like fire rod whistle, etc would be my dream leatherman.

I've not had issues with my cutters in my Arc like everyone else, but I do plan on upgrading them in future, but the wire I cut at work sometimes it does just fine, I my surge in my pocket an Arc on belt with a pocket light on the side, an I have a second bit set an gave one to my surge pouch with the micro drive so I have a spare now

Leatherman ARC without a magnacut blade would be such a good and cheap tool that it would kill sales of Wave, P2 and P4

Thanks for the vid., I might switch up from my rebar, however it is 300€ here but I guess it will be worth it.
You do have a nice and calm voice btw. Cheers

In your opinion, should I consider buying this even though I have the Charge Ti?

I see your idea of a different blade in like the next p series.

Just got the Leatherman Arc it as my early Xmas gift few days ago,
my first all around multitool based on my needs which really versatile.
Great tool but the price is steep.

I’ve got mixed feelings about the Leatherman ARC. On one hand, it’s like the perfect combo of the Wave and the Free P4—ditching all the useless tools and focusing on what’s actually useful. In that sense, it’s as good as, if not better than, both of them. But then there’s the downside: the early issues with the broken cutter and the steep price tag. Honestly, it feels more like a really cool toy (which I totally loved playing around with) than a hardcore heavy-duty tool. For the tough jobs, I stick with my Charge, and for something lighter, the Wave’s my go-to. I ended up keeping the ARC for a bit just to mess around with it before eventually giving it to a friend. Can’t let such an awesome tool just sit around gathering dust, right?

Arc is pretty good. Only two things that I would change would be a older style eagleclaw can opener with that v-style wirestripper and wave/charge style blade shape. My charge tti blade is much better for puncturing and slicing when compared to arc's smaller/bulkier blade. They could also made that cuthook for saw or somewhere else. I just love that on Charge tti. Perfect tool for ripping off old zipties. I'am pretty much for that situation where U were yearses ago. One day arc, other day charge tti and for hard jobs surge with couple of metalsaw t-shanks dropped in to sheats pocket. MacGyver would be a jaelous!😅😅

Regarding d2 steel vs other stuff like s30 v, there’s not much difference besides machining and heat treatment. D2 cuts stainless steel day in and day out in power presses as a die steel.

I don't know why people think that Magnacut steel is that expensive. It's just its popularity that allows manufactures to charge premium for that.

How to you maintain it? What oil do you use?

Hopefully Leatherman will listen to you and put a simple steel blade on it, like all the other Leathermans, so they can shave $100 off it and make the ARC more accessible to the public. I would buy it because it is cheaper and easier to sharpen.

How about those huge holes in the saw and especially the file, aren't they bothering? The Wave that i have has more uniform file.

Quite wise words about the steel quality. I tend to cut mushrooms with the knife, so any metal except mercury would do the job. I secretly admit though that the super steel fascinates me some bit...

I like that they left off the hole from the awl for extra strength. I doubt anyone has ever sewn with the awl. Poking holes and scraping are the jobs it has to do. I like the scissors too. Over all, this seems a good set of tools.

I don't know why they rejected their good peculiar multi-purpose can and bottle opening tool that also had a wire stripper, and put the boringly common dedicated can opener instead? It's not more effective in the task, and as the cans usually have an opening clip nowadays, the dedicated opener gets quite useless. It should definitely have those extra functions in it to be justified.

The ONLY thing i can see is the screw heads going over the embossed decorative line, i can't, i just can't have that in my pocket and know that this shit is going down.

The ARC is a fine piece of engineering for sure, but it has not replaced my OG Supertool for three reasons:

1. Comfort. The edges of the handles and the exposed section of the file (when closed) on the ARC bite into your hand a bit when using any of the handle tools. You REALLY notice it when you’re using a tool that requires some grip strength (like the saw, or the blade when cutting though dense material). The smooth, rounded edges of the OG Supertool handles provide a much more comfortable grip surface.

2. Driver reach (particularly with the Phillips driver). I recently had to attach legs to a medium-sized LED display. The screws were recessed into the inside of the legs maybe 3/4 of an inch, through an opening that was maybe 3/8 of an inch wide, and the screw was probably #0 or #1. The Phillips driver on the OG Supertool worked great. The Phillips bit on the ARC/Wave bit driver would have been too stubby to reach the screw.

3. The bit adapter that fits on the Phillips driver on the Rebar/ST300 also fits the medium flat driver on the OG Supertool and PST, so I can still use the Leatherman bits on the classic multitools.

The great thing about the Leatherman line is that there really is something for just about everyone. I get why people love the Wave/Charge/Surge series so much, and the ARC is a brilliant addition to the family. I still believe the PST and OG Supertool have something unique to offer, which is why I still carry them.
