The film opens with Bernard Garrett in Willis, Texas, in 1939. He listens to his customers' chats about money and real estate investing while working as a shoe shiner outside a bank. One day, while listening to a bank meeting, a police officer spots him and begins following him. Bernard's father speaks to him that evening, when he examines Bernard's finance notebook, he says he's a smart child, but no white man will let him make money. Bernard, on the other hand, insists on going out to make a lot of money one day. We are transported to 1954 Los Angeles, where Bernard, his wife Eunice, and their son Bernard Jr. arrive in a car to visit his wife's uncle. The uncle informs Bernard that Northrop is employing black workers and that he can obtain a job there, but Bernard respectfully declines, stating that he will try his hand at real estate.

I'm white and had no problem working for a black owned family painting company I was the only white guy. I worked as a volunteer with the Red Cross in southeast L.A. I never had any problems.

You play by the books and work hard; they put hurdles in your way and blatantly impede you. You do nothing and they call you lazy. Welcome to the life of a Black person.

Funny how this movie is not advertised and how history is edited and abridged more than most could imagine

To make this right, the government should give back everything that they stole with interest. Black people have illegally lost land to the tune of around $320 billion dollars, but this government only gave back around $2.0 billion for all the loses. This comes to around 0.625%.

I always remember at elite schools I taught in BLK students were only encouraged by the teachers in sports and drama and religious studies .But only the Asian students were told *you are a natural at maths and sciences* .
This, plus the insurmountable odds of prejudice nowadays and lack of collective leverage amongst BLK businessmen seems to be like climbing a mountain with an elephant .
Back then it must have been an incredible feat with all the colour bar laws .

Nuance was missed by the narrator, Mr. reed wasn’t actually “not available” the secretary was stonewalling him out of prejudice so was giving the refusal answer of “he’s not available”.

One of my favorite movies is one that I rarely hear anyone talk about. It's such a great movie, and I'm surprised it doesn't get more attention.

This movie NEVER mad it to theaters.
A story was made up and canned the film.
They just don't want this truth to be told.

So, 2 things about the release of this film. First, it came out in March 2020 when everything was shut down due to Covid. Second, It came out in an even more reduced format than usual becaause;

The film, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie, was withdrawn after a producer, a son of one of its protagonists, was accused of sexual misconduct. After its original rollout plan was scrapped late last year, “The Banker, ” a civil rights drama starring Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie, has a new life.

No idea if accurate, just what I found.

The banking industry has not changed. The resistance to black wealth that existed back then still exists today.
