How To Make Under Stairs Storage DIY

In preparation for our home addition I've been doing a lot of little DIY projects In other words another project that ended up taking a lot longer than expected. Last month was the new stair railing and time before that was bathroom makeover. This week was taking advantage of all that unused space under the stairs. I do love the amount of storage that i was able to get under the stairs. It cleaned up the pantry a lot. To those subscribers that are into my welding videos, I'll be getting one of those out in a couple weeks.

This project started out as a quick 1 weekend build that turned into a 3-4 weeker. That is because when I took off the drywall i realized there wasn't just unused space but there was 1 foot of dead space between the entry way and the stairs. The wife decided that she would rather have the extra room in the mud room than under the stairs (I know agree 110%). That extra foot in the laundry room is awesome. We aren't hitting the door against our coats and you can open the door all the way too!!

An option for that untiled floor area... build a small "kid sized" bench, with even more storage under it (either flip top or just open for boots, etc.).

I love this. I noticed last summer when we had a hole happen that someone can stand up in the space under our stairs. There's a landing so it's double the width of your stairs. I might have to make a secret room. Your son is going to be very handy in a couple of years.
