I have been listening to various live and recorded performances of this concerto for almost 40 years and have rarely heard it played exceptionally as this young lady does. Her face is wonderful to watch and shows she has complete understanding of what Beethoven was trying to say. Her cadenzas are spellbinding and the orchestra is wonderful. A truly memorable performance. This gives me faith that a new generation of young artists can carry on the legacy of the immortals.

Aaaah! Voilà qui réjouit les oreilles! Un Beethoven tel qu'en lui-même, jeune, frais et joué à vitesse normale. La virtuose jeune violoniste s'en sort très bien malgré de nombreux micro-dérapages mais qu'on va lui pardonner car elle apporte du coeur et de l'esprit, qu'elle vibre en même temps que son instrument et que son jeu conte la même histoire que celle qu'a voulu raconter le compositeur. Elle entre dans le récit et a compris ce qu'il fallait en faire. Sa compréhension est évidente et son discours n'est pas creux. Le jeune chef fait chanter son orchestre et souligne joliment les contrechants souvent mis de côté. Même s'ils peinent tous par moment à sortir de leur confort pour "envoyer les watts" nécessaires à la tonitruante faconde Beethovénienne le tout est réjouissant et se réécoutera avec plaisir. Comme quoi on peut faire du neuf avec du vieux sans déboulonner inutilement les statues.

What shocks me about this video is the audience--so many young people! I've never seen that before. Almost always in these classical music videos it's a sea of white and grey hair, with a splatter of youthful color here and there. Bravo to whatever this orchestra is doing to attract such young audiences!
