It's amazing how much I've taken the Sun for granted during my 43 trips around it. How beautiful and terrifying it is.

It nice to see the progress we are making in our observation of the sun. There is still much to learn from the sun I would think. Gravity and magnetisim as well as all the other interactions make it a lively place. I guess we can expect better weather forcasting to come from this as well.

I object on your statement "Everyone knows that the other side of the sun is dark; that is how we get night". It is not how we get night, its because the Earth rotates on its axis, so we get nights. The sun is just like a bright bulb which spreads light in its spherical coverage.

They made a awesome cartoon. I want to be a astronaut when I grow up so I can make cartoons like NASA does

no, those are sunspots, those are parts of the sun where the circulation of plasma below the photosphere is blocked, this cools down some areas and are seen in visible light as dark patches.

@tonemd According to my calculations it would be approximately 139.17 million kilometers away or 86.47 million miles. You may notice this is actually around 10 million kilometers closer to the sun than the Earth is, the atmosphere has a very large effect on global temperature.

True. The largest industry in the world is the arms industry.

People comment like that all the time because when they watch a video, youtube sometimes directs them to videos that seem totally unrelated to what they were watching. It happens to me all the time.

Basicly we have cameras in space to watch the sun so we know when the guys on the ISS will turn into The Thing and The Human Torch?

What a well-done video that is dumbed down far enough for the average Joe. I wish they had not quite dumbed-down the effects if they don't get this right. Can you imagine no internet or electricity or phones for a very long time, i.e. maybe a year to replace stuff that has been zapped? This is an extremely important project. Tax dollars are NOT wasted here for those of you who didn't get it the first time. I want to find out about the other probes mentioned quickly at the end.
