Discogs Record Shopping with Sound Matters

Music is an experience best shared, so in this video, we walk you though one of our weekend record shopping experiences on Discogs.

I pick out one item from the Wantlist, along with a couple of other picks and try to find a balance between record quality, price, and rarity. One of the items I picked up (Tyrannosaurus Rex Unicorn) has been on my holly grail list for some time. Between the pricer mono copy and the more affordable stereo version, I chose the latter for now due to price. The mono copy will have to wait for another day.

We'd love to hear from you. What are you collecting at the moment? Have you found any particularly good deals recently? How do you find Discogs? Let us know your experience and share your holly grail pressings in the comments below.

I use Discogs all the time as it has become the only way to have a dig through vinyl during the various lockdowns. I have recently picked up an original pressing of A Hard Road by John Mayall's Bluebreakers...features Peter Green as the guitarist who went on to form Fleetwood Mac. The grading was VG for both Vinyl and Sleeve, which is below what i would normally go for. The description said there were hairlines but had a more serious scratch on Track 3 of side 1. The price was £12.99 plus postage so i wasn't expecting much as the median price is above £40. I took a chance on it and was absolutely delighted when it came. The Vinyl looks in NM condition to my eyes except that scratch but when i played it there is only the slightest click...no jumps or sticks. Best bargain from Discogs so far....

Hello Sir
Interesting video topic.
I use Discogs to buy records from time to time. And I use the want list as well.
The thing about the want list I find a bit unfortunate is the fact that you cannot set it up so it filters after condition e.g. if you only want copies from vg+ and up.
And an important part of the buying process for me is definitely checking out the sellers rating. It doesn't necessarily have to be 100%, but if the lesser seller grading is due to wrong or over optimistic grading of records or bad packaging, it is a no go for me and I'll move on to another seller.
Resently I have bought some Analogue Productions records and Mobile fidelity sound lab which had gone out of print - and learned the hard way that when you snooze on those poppies you will pay - ouch!
Oh well I will not hesitate so much in the future...😉
Stay safe - cheers from Copenhagen!
- Andrew
