I think the problem is that everyone saw Mia play a very emotionally open character, Pearl; and so when they get to Maxxxine they’re expecting her to progress into a Pearl. Where she states in interviews that Maxine is a focused/strategic character rather than Pearl who has a deep passion but does nothing to really go for it. I don’t really agree with the review since I don’t think the context was clear to you both. But everyone is free to have their opinion. 🤷‍♂️

I agree with everything said. Surprised how haphazard the screen play was. I will say them killing the one black character was 100% 80’s horror lol

Too bad that MaXXXine sounds disappointing, but the review is worth it to hear Brother Bro pronounce Italian stylized horror genre Giallo as "Gay-O"

Love you guys but giallo is pronounced “Jah-Low”. In Italian two L’s are not silent, they are pronounced.

6:45 "I thought it was just good" haha. This is the problem with "today's critics", you want all films to be wow incredible, for the Oscars, I miss when we went to the cinema just to watch a "good film" and forget about the world for a bit.

I’ll say it, it was crap. So much potential.

I liked X (6/10). Pearl is really good (7/10). I thought this one was just rough. (3/10)

One problem i had was all these bigger named actors the felt like they were only here because it was a popular series. They got weird over stuffed cameos half baked characters. I really felt that way with Cannavale & Monaghan as the detectives. Bobby saying he wanted to be an actor just before his death was hollow attempt at character development.

Collins felt like she was just there for a cameo. Could have been fine without her. Esposito as a cliche manager was okay.

Halsey. Her female friends felt like the role was split in two unnecessarily. Just one; either Farnsworth or Halsey would have been maybe enough screen time to actually care about their death.

Kevin was pretty good. His death was style over substance. Really didnt like dynamic of the situation.

I really wanted Debicki to be more developed maybe more like the devil wears prada maybe with a death.

The relationship between her and her father was underdeveloped for any real satisfaction. The father was just a cartoon character. Just really awful. I would have been satisfied with a cliche flash back of his struggle to find maxine or why/when did he escalate to become this evil person. All we get is a old tape of a father scolding his child saying his catch phrase. Why did Maxine want to leave her father? I need to see their relationship for a sec please.
