Awesome video tutorial my man! drums on the R8 have been by far the most challenging thing for me to try and grasp and workout..sequencing them in to different parts of songs as well..this video is a massive help and all of us noobs in the zoom R8 world really appreciate tutorials like this one mate! there isnt a lot of these types of proper tutorials to learn from, so im stoked that you have made this video..if you figure out other easy ways to do things, please upload more content! you have my like and sub!!!

Thanx for your video, so many people seem to struggle with drum patterns and sequencing... So thanx that some people like you take the time to explain to us ! 🙏
There's something i don't understand, i'd be glad to understand why. I assigned several drum patterns as follow:
Track 1 : pattern 1
Track 2 : pattern 2
Both track 1 and 2 buttons turned to orange. When i press play, i hear them from the 1st bar. I assume it's normal to be able to hear them normally on their own track, and together when played with both tracks with a green light button.
Then, in track sequencer, i parametered my song : pattern 1 starts at bar 1, pattern 2 starts at bar 2. So i validate my pattern on the corresponding bars as you explain. As long as i stay in Track Sequencer, it works fine. From bar 1 to 4, i only hear pattern 1, then from bar 5, i only hear pattern 2. Great.
But, when returning to the song and press play to listen to my song, both drum patterns play along on track 1 and 2 ! Why ? Why are your buttons red whereas mine are orange ? Would that be the origin of the problem ?
If you have any idea, this might save my week !! Thanx a lot 😉

The Zoom PS02 that I've been using for 2 decades has a decent drum machine. Not anywhere near as intricate, but still very useable and still sounds surprisingly good for a supposed obsolete device.

The 'x' has to do with quantization, page 54 of the manual.

Tip?:
I recently found out that one can record into/edit the preset patterns per project. Meaning that if you start a new project, you restart with a clean set of preset patterns.
All the changes you previously made to the presets reset themselves in the new project..
(Unless you copy the project and work on the copy).

Hey, could you do a video on making the drum track (orange light) back into a regular track (green light)?

Really useful, thanks. One query we can't sort: how can you change the default 4/4 drum pattern to an alternative [like 5/4].

Still learning. So if I want an INTRO, VERSE 1, VERSE 2, CHORUS, BREAK, FILL1, FILL2 I have to set them up on 7 individual tracks and then use the 8th track to hold the sequencer? So all 8 tracks are full with just drum programming?

Hello. I have a question: I recorded some songs with the Zoom R8. First track rhythm, then rhythm guitar on the next track and the next 2 tracks vocals. Now I don't know what to do next. Now what do I need to mix my songs? Can you help me with that? Thank you very much. Greetings

Just picked up an R8 but with no manual. Used YouTube for tutorials on how to use it and getting the hang of it. How do you set up for drum fills using the drum pads? Want to do a drum fill on an intro to a song. Thanks.

Sorry, is every single drum loop occupied a track(fader)?, if say i have 3 different drum loops in a song, means i have 5 track left?

What settings do you have in track sequencer. Without making the tracks into a loop I can’t get any tracks to be entered into the track sequencer

after you modify a drum pattern and use it in a song, does it not show up as a .wav file? Im trying to upload it to PC and its just not there. When I look at the individual files in the R8, its not there either. But the playback is fine, within the song. This has never happened to me with any other track. Have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks so much man for responding to my questions. Is there a way to play and record drum tracks whilst playing the guitar tracks? I want to be able to listen to the guitar tracks while I tap the drums

In the manual it says " Notes that are at locations that cannot be moved to with the CURRENT quantize setting cannot be deleted. A note at such a position appears as an "X ". "
I hope that helps someone else too. Thanks.
Edit: I had to set the Quantize to 1/32 and then delete the now visible hit, then set the quantize back to 1/16 again.Works fine.

Seems like alot of work just to use as a click track and then throw away, considering there's no way to record the drums without using another device.
