I do actually make my thumbnails last BUT I have a plan for what it's going to look like during the scriptwriting phase

It really depends on what you’re doing in your video- if it’s something that you’re creating in the video that you want to show in the thumbnail, this can’t really apply. I agree usually tho

Usually when I make the thumbnail first it a mistake because sometimes I just end up scraping the video and that’s a wasted thumbnail

My pc aint powerful enough to have software to create thumbnails. Its a piddly 8gb, it struggles with video editing 😂

Always make my thumbnails before recording. I do many different ones for different games, it actually inspires me to decide which game to play for a video :)

I gotta say, I don't get this one. At least not in my niche, where the thumbnail kinda needs to be the best picture of the dish you made. That's kinda hard to do if you haven't cooked it yet. But even in general I just don't see the difference in making it first or making it after.

Since I do let's play videos it forces me to do thumbnails and titles last, since I take screenshots while I'm playing the game for my thumbnails. Plus the planning for what I play goes into the title which I only know after I've already recorded 🙄

Nobody wants to watch a boring video, the topic may be "boring" and serious
But the way the person behind it presents the content is what makes the video interesting or boring, empathy, comedy, emotion, all of these can transform a video, if you are flexible and can present something in a fluid way, it is much easier to hold someone's attention
You may be doing the exact same thing as other people, but the way you present your content makes you unique.
Because in the spirit of the thing, a youtuber is a presenter/showman

Ridiculous. As long as you actually make a good thumbnail, you have a good thumbnail. Doing it after you finished helps make sure the thumbnail reflects the FINISHED PRODUCT. I've seldom had any video actually turn out exactly as planned. So making the thumbnail first might neglect some development that may have occurred during production.

I make gaming videos and I usually use a screenshot from the video as the background of my thumbnail

Sigh, the reason why I make the thumbnail last is that in my videos where I build a Minecraft build in survival, is that I like my thumbnails with the finished product. What you think I’m going to open a dimensional rift to travel forward in time.

Only reason I make my thumbnail last is because I use clips from the video and use a certain clip for the thumbnail and then edit it

For me, it depends on the video. I make gamer videos. If I'm making a planned out scripted video or live stream, I will make the thumbnail and title first. If I'm doing gameplay of a game I've never played, I will record first because I don't know the outcome of the video. Then I will make the thumbnail and title afterwards to help reflect the outcome or more interesting key of the video.

Sometimes, I make my thumbnails first by putting together different images or posters to make it look like a split-screen because the thumbnail is half of my beginning idea for a video when I know what topic I want to cover that pertains to two or three different movie titles' productions.

I do Gran Turismo 7 I do not thumbnail afterwards because I do not know how the race is going to end or any of that and making my thumbnail ahead of time would not correlate with my race

Think about it if you made your thumbnail after recording you will have more of an idea of what you thumbnail should look like and you can put pics of the video in the thumbnail to show the viewer what will be happening in your vid.But if u made the thumbnail before recording some of the things in the thumbnail might not appear in the video
