The Truth About Preschool

I get a lot of questions about preschool, what curriculum to use, etc. I totally understand where these questions are coming from, because at one time I had a lot of little kids and was not at all sure what I was supposed to be doing with them!

When my son was born 9 years ago I know O would not be able to let him go to school. My husband did NOT want him to stay home he feared that I was not prepared or smart enough to educate our own son. So we did take him and it only took half of kindergarten year of battling with behavioral issues and ocd tantrums at school. My son was in the office every single day. Just sitting there until I went and got him, they would no longer lecture him of his behavior they just stopped teaching him. His teacher was a sweet person, she was the first one to tell me I should think about homeschooling him. She knew he was a bright kid his behavior and ocd just inhibited his learning and progress. He learns what he wants, we take our lunches at a nearby park mostly everyday. We have a full picnic then come back home and wrap up the school day. Now I am “homeschooling” my 6 year old son. You are right!!! You cannot force little ones to learn what we want them to learn. He hates sitting down and doing work, but he loves to fill a mini notebook of words. He will go anywhere with that book and any word he sees he copies it!!!! He then asks me to read his “work to him”. It is so funny to watch him do it. He is so serious about it. He knows his shapes, numbers, alphabet, he can count to 100 with his older brother (we count on our walk to and from the park) he knows everything he needs in kindergarten. He learned this just by playing with his older brother. Homeschooling is my dream come true! I am thankful to God he has given this dream to me and realized it. My husband is so proud of his sons!

Thank you for this! This is so very encouraging. I needed to hear that today. Of all days it’s so great you posted this today, specifically! I was really wrestling with insecurities in feeling I’m not “doing enough “ with my kindergarten and preschooler. Questioning all that we do and feeling so discouraged. I am starting to believe the reason why my oldest had to go bck a grade ws bc he went to a prek, we actually visited lyndon B Johnson historic school.
Thats before i realized all this .

Going to get a little personal. I love you so much, for many reasons, you are a blessing to the body of Christ ❤️ You encourage me that I can do this in Christ and for his glory and for my children's good. I'm also drawn to you because your personality, mannerisms and even looks reminds me of my mother who passed away in November of 2016 at 53. I was only 34. She was just so delightful, a beautiful, gentle, real relatable personality. If she would have been a Christian, I do believe she would have been so much like you. She loved children, she just did not have the skill set to train, guide and counsel them. She leaned unto her own understanding, sowed to the flesh and reaped that harvest. Many of her children were taken away from her. I was one of them, at 12 years old.

Sadly, as much as I adored her, I knew I did not want to be the same mother that my mother was; neglectful, self-centered and other immoralities I do not feel comfortable to share.

I still miss her.

I feel so comforted listening to you teach. I do so wish you were my neighbor, I would love to sit at your feet and learn in person.

Thank you for this! I really needed this reminder for my young ones, all they need is their mommy and their mommy to be rooted in Jesus :)
Side note.. I would love a video on all of your kid vintage books! There were a few you mentioned in some of your videos, that I went to look for myself and love them!

Building strong loving respectful relationships first, reading aloud, take long walks, cooking, take them with you to the store, take them to the library, and for fun Rod and Staff preschool workbooks add sit down "fun". Rod and Staff workbooks has a new Bible song to sing daily, different activities each day, and teaches carefulness.
