After going through my storage unit a while ago, I was able to gather an entire bag full of remaining pieces of my very first custom LEGO minifigs using Sharpies from 2009! For this video, I decided to finally open it up...

Hey man, if you want to restore the sharpied ones, I recommend putting all of them in soapy water, and then coloring over the sharpie with white board marker which should clean a good portion. Also try spraying cheap perfume on them and rubbing it of which also helps :) good day to you :)
