If you can’t afford to buy one of these things just do it my way. Put down that red rosin paper, use a portable garden sprayer with pure paper, and have a step stool or short scaffold. Wet the ceiling. Have a kitchen trash can sitting on the floor, with a plastic bag inside. From the step stool, using a paint roller tray and a broad 5” scrapper, start scrapping the very damp popcorn into your paint tray. Empty as needed as you go. I did an entire 3600 sq ft house with little difficulty. You just need to keep the popcorn ‘wet’ as you proceed across the room. The broad trowel or scrapper can be modified a little by cutting off the sharp corners—just grind them off. It will help keep you from digging into a drywall type ceiling.

I bought one of these and I think scraping is better. It was great for my walls though when I needed to smooth a patch

What grid did you use?
Also; nice! Death to popcorn ceilings. We call it "spack" where I live. Some people even put it on the walls... sometimes so sharp that if you scrape the wall with your hand... there is blood on the wall.

I did it the old way soaked it with water then scraped it into bags. Then afterwards. Like 7 years later my neighbor told me bay there was asbestos in that popcorn ceilings send a sample to a test lab first

DIYers, if you’re not 100% sure that there is no asbestos in your popcorn, you may want to get a sample testing. It was very common in this type of ceiling.
