Held on July 14, 2020, this webinar on the mining sector in Uzbekistan was organized by Eurasian Investor in partnership with the British Embassy in Tashkent, the Department for International Trade, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London, and the State Committee of Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan.

The webinar was the third in a series of online meetings organized by Eurasian Investor. The attendees were welcomed by Ambassador Said Rustamov, Uzbekistan’s envoy to the United Kingdom and Ambassador Tim Torlot, the British ambassador in Tashkent. Both ambassadors highlighted the significant potential of the mining sector as a basis of stronger bilateral economic relations between their countries.

The mining sector is a strategic sector for Uzbekistan, a major earner of foreign exchange. Participants were given a detailed account of steps being taken to improve the conditions for investment in the mining sector by foreign firms. Senior executives from the country's two largest mining enterprises, in Navoi and Almalyk, described the financial and operational restructuring of the state-owned companies currently underway, in accordance with a sector-wide plan developed by Boston Consulting Group.
