Bolting Veg Tip ✂️

Noticed your vegetable plants bolting in warm weather? No, we don't mean doing a runner (bean) - we're talking about when your vegetables start to prematurely flower, making them inedible in the process. 😭

Some of the vegetable plants most prone to bolting include lettuce, chard, broccoli, kale, carrots and beetroots (although it can happen to most, if not all vegetable plants). 🥬

Bolting is typically caused when the plant undergoes certain stressors, such as elevated soil temperature, root stress and changes to the length of days. ☀️

If you catch your bolting veg early enough, they're usually salvageable - pinch out any flower stalks that start to grow as soon as you notice them, and you should get away without the crop becoming too woody or bitter in taste. 👅
