I volunteer at a school working with kids with various challenges, both mental and physical.
One of my favorite things to do when I find toys showing someone who isn't "normal", provided the toy is in my budget, is to get 1-2 to donate to the school's therapy offices. I was able to get one of the more recent wheelchair Barbies, whose wheelchair was STUNNINGLY well designed, to donate. It had no push handles on the wheelchair (!!) and had an emphasis on the design of the chair to make it quite realistic and functional. You'd think kids don't notice this, but as someone who works with wheelchair-bound kids occasionally... trust me, they recognize if it's a chair for someone who is or isn't totally independent. And in my experience, given the choice between those two wheelchair toys, the kids in the wheelchair gravitate towards the toy that shows the doll being more independent: the chair without push-handles, the chair with push-rims, the chair that is functional and comfortable and usable.
Because they know what they want, and they want to be represented as independent and in control.

I still have my share a smile Becky doll, still in box. My mom got her for me when they first came out. It's a shame they didn't just redesign a house that would accommodate her wheelchair with even a ramp..

I love how she didn’t give even one reason why her random dog plushie that nobody has ever seen before is better then the iconic barbie doll that has been here since 1959 ❤

barbie is a fashion statement doll though, I'd say it's more important personally

What a clever idea for a toy. Love the inclusiveness. But I’m idk if this toys more important than Barbie 🤣🤣🤣

I always wanted Becky and was so sad she got discontinued. I can imagine that them getting rid of her rather than the house is an extra insult to disabled kids

I dunno guys, sometimes things are a non-issue. Does the barbie wheelchair need to fit in the dream house? Yeah, definitely.

But does there really need to be a disabled plush dog? So kids can understand that sometimes animals have disabilities? This just reeks of another ploy to sell toys.

A fashion doll with vitiligo is interesting, a plush dog with it feels like grasping at straws.

sorry ik you're doing your job but you gave like 5/6 of the video to barbies not being inclusive and like 1/6 of the plushies you're selling i was ready to hear more about them but i guess i just get like 2 words out of it

I think calling it important is a lie, as it doesn't have a bigger impact that Barbie in the toy community. To me monster high g3 is the most inclusive line of toys having queer, nd and disabled characters and different body types, in their first year of existence they have more body types that Barbie.

That’s cute and all but I hate when products or politicians try to sell their shit by putting something else down. Your product should be good enough to stand out on its own without being compared to anything else. Like the politicians that just shit talk whoever is opposing them. Like okay?? But what is good about you??? I know all these bad things about Barbie now but what is good about the puppies other than them being cute?? Poor sportsmanship doesn’t really sell me I guess :/

Nah Barbie is better and more inspiring in my opinion the only reason why you’re probably saying that is to make profit and you told no history behind it

Hey I know this is kinda of topic but.. anyone else think the Lego friend Debbie girl who’s missing an arm is a little weird? I can’t say that I understand the struggles of people with disabilities, but the toy has lost a chunk of its functionality. And if you think about it, if they want to be diverse, then they shouldn’t remove the character that look like me, cause that makes me not feel included. Idk random ramble, and I suppose it doesn’t affect me that much cause I have the old legos with the older characters. Just ranting and wanting to hear others thoughts
