VANYA
by Simon Stephens
Theatro Technis Karolos Koun
Premiere: March 8th 2025
Giorgos Karamichos takes on "VANYA" by the multi-award-winning Simon Stephens in a modern and condensed version of Anton Chekhov's famous play that challenges an actor to play eight roles, navigating between comedy and tragedy of characters who desperately want to change their lives. The play was presented with great success in London's West End with Andrew Scott, receiving rave reviews. The presentation of the Greek version takes place in the historic Basement of the Art Theatre, produced by the cultural organization "Lycofos".
The director , Alexandros Raptotasios , notes
" At the core of the play is a question : How can we change our lives ? Eight characters face the same question in a different way and one actor embodies this heartbreaking need for change . For a different life . For love , affection , success , money , acceptance , happiness . Characters trapped, ridiculous, tragic and absolutely modern. Who we may encounter within our family, at the office, in a bar or in the supermarket. People trapped in a place of consumption and abundance that hides a barren loop - a human purgatory. Nightmare and farce together. Like all plays that have stood the test of time . "
